The angle of a story can very well be twisted while reporting a news piece.
It is important to portray both sides of a story or else the opinions are going to be biased.
Yesterday leading news daily had given a story on the kind of complaints BCCC received.
In that there was a case of a Senior Govt. Official’s complaint:
He was irked by Sr. Bachchan’s KBC promo involving the girl from the #NorthEast. He filed a complaint to the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council asking them to take off the promo but they didn’t listen.
The promo that offended him is this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVLyDOW2jC8
So yes we are all obviously in unison supporting Big B after watching this promo. There was definitely nothing offensive about the promo. The promo in fact was completely proving the opposite of the complaint.
But there is a side of the story that isn’t really highlighted.
Obviously the question was silly as the promo meant to create awareness and clearly make a point about the way Indians themselves treat people from their own country.
But the other side of the Big B and North East saga goes way back to 6th August, 2012
Big B had tweeted about Mary Kom being from Assam.
T 828 – Mary Kom !! wins her boxing bout, insured a Bronze ! What a story ! A Mother of two from Assam, creates moment of pride for India !!
— Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) August 6, 2012
Mary Kom after she won the bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, Big B had tweeted praising her.
But the biggest goof-up in the entire tweet was that he mentioned she was from Assam instead of Manipur.
The North Eastern people were highly agitated considering the fact that the region is already neglected in the country.
So when a person of his stature makes such a blunder it creates a big problem. Considering the fact that he hosts a general knowledge TV show it is definitely not expected from a person like him to tweet without checking the facts.
Well he apologized later:
T 828 – Sorry correction : Mary Kom is from Manipur, not Assam .. apologies !!
— Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) August 6, 2012
But the people didn’t really take it lightly:
@SrBachchan get your facts right before tweeting. Wrong info travels faster than light #marykom is from #Manipur not #Assam.
— NancyNisa (@NNNBeso) August 9, 2012
FYI Mary Kom is from MANIPUR… Yes a state from north east india MANIPUR NOT ASSAM! @srbachchan http://t.co/fzuebbPP

The promo is on the same lines of ignorance about North East. Hence it is an irony to see Amitabh Bachchan who himself made a blunder of jumbling Manipur and Assam in a promo on North East Awareness.
Was he aware of Mary Kom being from Manipur and not Assam?
This ignorance isn’t just a spelling error. This ignorance is about the region where the people faced tremendous problems with respect to their demographics.
When Big B gets his geography wrong about the region that has always been facing problems, obviously it is not a case that would be forgotten.
So the promo where he questions about Kohima might have added fuel to the fire.
