Now A Temple For The Mahatma’s Assassinator?

The Akhil Bharatiya Mahasabha as per reports is building a temple in Uttar Pradesh on Nathuram Godse. The idol worship idea is done with people being idolized and that is actually a dangerous thing.

The Akhil Bharatiya Mahasabha as per reports is building a temple in Uttar Pradesh on…uhh…The name of the person I am going to type now would definitely attract lots of reactions. Well the temple would be on Nathuram Godse. Yes the person who assassinated the Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi.

Before raising eyebrows and reacting let us first know of the information and explore some areas of discussion.

Firstly let me glance through the reports on this news:

So a temple is planned on the person who killed Mahatma Gandhi in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The construction is reported to begin on 30th January i.e. the mourning day across India as it marks Gandhi’s death anniversary.

As per reports a BJP spokesperson called Godse a patriot and after the criticism he retracted the tag from the assassin of Gandhi. Let me spare you all with all those political party angles and get straight to the point.

The temple is going to be constructed on the private land and hence it can’t be banned. Now every person has the right to pray whoever he/ she likes. So tomorrow should we expect someone raising the desire to build a temple on Kasab? I know, horrible comparison but am just exploring a possibility.

The problem in India is we keep someone at such a pedestal where we can’t question them. When we call someone a Mahatma then we are putting him in a position where no one can challenge him. The idol worship idea is done with people being idolized and that is actually a dangerous thing.

Mahatma Gandhi is a sensitive topic in our country. People who do not agree with his principles and question him are called being ignorant or violent. Even if you seek to know any information that may put Mahatma in a bad light or question his integrity is straightaway banned.

‘Mi Nathuram Godse Boltoy’ a play in Marathi was banned as there was fear that it would create tension. Seriously don’t people have the right to know the other side of the story? Actors of that play were intimidated by the so called followers of non-violence. Reports of Mahatma’s behavior towards the women in ashram is also a subject that is always hushed…can’t be openly discussed.

We say we live in a democratic country but when a principle doesn’t match with that of a Mahatma whoever he/ she is then there arises a huge unrest in the society.

This article isn’t about whom I am supporting. With this article I aim at awaking India to the huge political agenda behind putting a man in a pedestal or building a temple for someone. Till date it was Mahatma Gandhi who knows tomorrow we might have angry followers of Nathuram Godse.
