Police responsible for rapist driver – Banning Uber and other application based cab services is not going to stop rape. A man of this stature of crime was roaming free and it took another victim to give the police a wake-up call, really?
Banning Uber and other application based cab services is not going to stop rape.
The matter of rape in our country is always debated at the plight of the victims (still counting may be). The problem is that the rapists “know” they are going to get away with the crime.
Shiv Kumar Yadav – the 32yr old Uber cab driver was accused of raping a woman employee from a finance company in Gurgaon on 5th December, 2014 when she was on her way back.
Reports state that this is not Yadav’s first attempt at #Rape. He was said to be accused of rape in Delhi on 13th December, 2011 and was sentenced to 7 months imprisonment at Tihar Jail.
Here are a series of events that compel us to believe that the so called “protectors of law” played their part in the confidence building exercise of this pervert.
This man just had to spend 7 months and acquitted from the case reportedly due to lack of evidence.
We have never-ending trials and systems set up that favour criminals. Unless we get the shock, we don’t wake up.
Wasn’t the first incident shocking enough?
If the law failed to prove him guilty, it was the duty of the police officials to keep a check on the monster roaming loose.
They are at their best when it comes to moral policing but the rapist who is roaming free is not scared of anything.
The fact is a criminal in this country knows that he can get away by committing a crime. They make their experience count when it comes to doing away with their criminal history.
After getting out of jail he became all the more confident and was again arrested in April 2013 as per the report from his home district Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh for raping a woman from the neighbouring village of Nanglatar. This case still remains unresolved.
The law in this country gives a face palm scene for the entire country.
He was currently out on bail.
Before questioning how he forged documents and got into Uber we need to question the police, law and politicians.
What were you people doing with such a repeated criminal roaming free in the society?
Reports say there are six cases registered under this criminal at Ellau Police station – rape, molestation two cases under Uttar Pradesh Goonda Act, house break-in and a gambling case.
A man of this stature of crime was roaming free and it took another victim to give the police a wake-up call, really?
It is baffling to know the kind of law and order situation. Even if the laws need time to change the police at least can keep a watchful eye against such criminals taking advantage of the Indian judiciary and creating havoc in the society.
We need Nirbhayas and God forbid how many more Nibhayas to wake up the officials and police authorities.
A false character certificate issued in the name of the Additional DCP of Delhi police also puts the official in question.
But the police claim that the certificate was forged as the date mentioned in the certificate the signing officer wasn’t posted there. Unless the investigation is complete the nation cannot rest as there “might” be a possible link of an undue favour by the police.
Nonetheless the matter of rape in the country will not really end if the security from the police is tightened to an extent that the criminals are afraid of the word ‘police’. That fear is somehow missing.
The series of heinous criminal records of this on man unfolded only after the Uber incident came into limelight.
It is high time either laws need to change or at least the police officials could wake up and be more stringent with respect to providing security.
