Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the Iran-Pakistan gas project will be completed within the stipulated time.
He told the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, that Pakistan was bound to purchase gas from Iran by Jan 1, 2015, IRNA reported on Thursday.
He said that despite a number of hurdles the government was committed to complete the project within the stimulated period.
Abbasi said the government was working on a number of projects to overcome the oil and gas shortage in the country.
He added that the programmes include enhancement of indigenous gas production‚ import of gas from Iran and Turkmenistan‚ import of LNG from Qatar and promotion of LPG air mix.
He added that Pakistan had entered gas purchase agreements with Iran and Turkmenistan and work for completion of the projects was under way.
The minister said under the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, Pakistan was just a buyer and no investment had been made by it in the project.
