Egypt’s constitution-writing panel approved a draft charter almost five months after the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, official news agency MENA reported.
Amr Moussa, head of the 50-member panel, announced that the draft constitution would be delivered to interim President Adly Mansour Tuesday, Xinhua reported Sunday.
Earlier, some controversial articles of the charter failed to receive enough votes for approval.
An amendment was made to these articles relating to the electoral system, presidential and legislative elections, and the representation of youth, farmers and Coptic Christians.
Egypt suspended its 2012 constitution in the wake of Morsi’s ouster in early July. The army put forward a road map which includes the drafting of a new constitution.
