What Does The Report Card Say For Amitabh Bachchan’s New Show, Yudh?

We Talk about first episode of Amitabh Bachchan’s fiction show, Yudh. It has created hype but not everyone is satisfied. It is not staple food for TV watchers.. Only if it improves from where it started will it make an impact.

Extremely slow but gripping!

That is a unanimous verdict after watching the first episode of Amitabh Bachchan’s debut on TV in a fiction show.

A lot of hype was created around the show, Yudh, given the people associated with it.

We won’t say that we were disappointed but not completely impressed as well.

Amitabh Bachchan’s film career took wings with his angry young man roles. This serial is an extension of the same ideology, just that he is not young anymore. However, the intensity, the depth, the anger is still very much there. These very character traits are used and highlighted by the makers of the show to attract audiences! Do they work? Yes, to some extent, but going by the first episode, it leaves a lot to be desired.

The people, who have been fed the staple saas-bahu drama over more than a decade or so, will find this show very boring and unimpressive. Those who want something different will definitely show an inclination towards it, but it will all depend on how engagingly the story moves forward!

For those who haven’t been able to catch up with the first episode, let us share the story in brief. It is about an ageing construction magnate, Yudhishthir Sikarwar (Amitabh) who is suffering from a neurological disorder and has very less amount of time to live. He is a man of principals and lived his entire life with honesty. However, people around him are not so clean and corruption is rampant, both in personal and professional life! It is this fight against the ills of society that he tries to win at any cost.

Big B is Big B, gives his best at everything. However, he could have tried something new for his debut on TV but it is debatable. He does have a very able support cast though. Kay Kay Menon as a corrupt municipal commissioner and Tigmanshu Dhulia as a corrupt politician are excellent. In just a few moments of their screen time, they prove their superlative talent. The story moves slowly with lot of mystery and suspense which is something, if handled well, can get the audience hooked on the show.

Going forward, we will get to see the entry of talented actress Sarika who is supposedly the mother of Amitabh’s illegitimate daughter in the show. This can make things exciting and worth looking forward to.

Creative director Anurag Kashyap and creative consultant Soojit Sircar have a huge challenge in front of them. They better deliver on the promise or else the mighty talents of Big B, Sarika, Kay Kay Menon and many others may just go waste.

Yudh is telecast on Sony TV at 10:30pm Mon-Fri. Do catch up and share with us your views about it!
