With the mindless leaps going on in the Hindi Daily Soaps, it is not a distant thought that the mythological serials will also start seeing huge time leaps and reach the modern day saas-bahu fanaticism.
Time-leap, time-leap…. and another time-leap!
Seems like Ekta Kapoor and the likes of her in the Indian Television have found a magic wand that works better than God’s own will!
Ask me how, and ask me why?
Well, haven’t you witnessed the mindless time-leaps that have inundated the Daily Hindi Soaps? It feels as if we are sitting inside a time-machine which takes us to back and forth of years all together in those 22 minutes that we spend in front of the idiot-box pretending to watch a HINDI TELEVISION SHOW!
The time-leap saga that started decades ago with Saas-Bhi-Kabhi-Bahu-Thi, is continuing to plague the TV entertainment with accelerated vigour and every show seems to be slated for eons to go on and on and on! Every other show is encashing the idea.
Some popular TV shows (seems like all of them are popular) that witnessed time-leaps and were actually able to fetch improved TRPs due to that are:
- Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus)
- Veera (Star Plus)
- Kya Hua Tera Vaada (Sony TV)
- Uttaran (Colors TV)
- Pareechay Nayee Zindagi Ke Sapno Ka (Sony TV)
- Saubhagyavati Bhava (Life OK)
- Bade Achche Lagte Hain (Colors TV)
- Balika Vadhu (Colors TV)
These shows have managed to stay in the grind and the credit (undeiably) goes to their time-leaps. New characters being introduced, old ones going out, some new and interesting shades brought to the old characters, which got the audiences hooked to them for all the obvious reasons.
Going by the trends, the “raapchandoos” idea that crosses my mind is: Why not put all the ongoing mythological or period serials to a time-leap and enjoy the drama to its pinnacle?
Why not have Arjuna’s grandson’s grandson’s grandson’s grandson (if that is enough already), feature in a Modern Day Mahabharata where Arjuna is still young (it’s a usual in Hindi TV soaps. Dads, moms, and grandmothers never get old) and teaching his predecessors how to hold a sword!
Or maybe, Arjuna decides to have a little stroll on his chariot around the city, and his vehicle is obstructed by the roaring Mumbai Metro. Arjuna wonders how come the planet has progressed in such a less time? Little would he know that TV magicians a.k.a Ekta Kapoor and likes, have all the power to do anything and everything under the sun with this magical wand in their hands called “MINDLESS TIME-LEAP”!
Well, I am roaring to see such madness, if any of the creatively mad TV makers are listening, that is!
Are you ready too?
