As ‘Gutthi’ he got off to a flying start, but as ‘Chutki’, Sunil Grover had to kiss goodbye to all the ‘pats on his backs’ he has accumulated over a period of time. The comedian’s fairly new venture Mad In India isn’t exactly attracting a great amount of hooting from the audience. The TRPs are on an all-time low and to make things worse even celebs aren’t very keen to make an appearance on the show of late. Mad In India started off with a bang, and comparisons were drawn with Jay Leno’s talk show. But all that hype and hoopla fizzled out sooner than we could imagine.
While it is all going downhill for the show, even the saving grace Manish Paul has decided to bid goodbye to Mad In India. Now after all this hoo-ha, there’s a strong buzz that the show will bite the dust very soon since it’s not exactly garnering enough profits.
I wonder if Sunil is regretting all of this. He had this wonderful opportunity to showcase his talents on Comedy Nights With Kapil, but call it ‘ego issues’ or the ‘plain drive to attain a li’l more fame’, he kicked Kapil’s show right when he was at the peak of his comedy career. He stormed out claiming that he got an offer from another channel and it was an offer which was simply too tempting to refuse. Denying that he had creative differences with Kapil Sharma, he went on to carve his own path in the world of stand-up comedy, but unfortunately Grover fell flat on his face.
Of course, he is a great performer and I wonder if he will ever be short of brilliant opportunities. But his ‘Gutthi’ act is still sorely missed by his ardent fans. Maybe he should get back on CNWK and step into the shoes of the clumsy and goofy Gutthi once again, and this time with a double dose of tadka perhaps! What say readers?
