Not comfortable with mythological shows: Samir Soni

The small screen is currently full of mythological shows but they fail to excite actor Samir Soni as he feels they are too restricted in terms of performance.

Last seen on TV show “Parichay – Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka”, Samir says he likes to add value to the character he is playing.

“I am not comfortable playing mythological characters. I feel that they are very restricted. What I enjoy is to add value to a character on a personal level, but with mythological characters that’s not possible,” Samir told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

“Mythological shows are something that I shy away from. I have been offered mythological shows in the past but I refused to do them because I feel I wouldn’t be able to do justice to it,” he added.

Samir will next be seen in fictional horror show “Khauff Begins…Ringa Ringa Roses”. He will be seen as JD, an ex-army officer, who has a special power to see ghosts.

He says his character drew him towards the show.

“I like playing complex characters. I ask myself if I can do justice to a particular role or add value to it. If yes, then I accept the role.

“For 25 days a month if I don a character and I don’t like it, then its useless. So the character in the show is something that made me accept it,” he said.

The actor, who has been seen in films like “Baghban”, “Vivaah” and “I Hate Luv Storys”, says whatever role he picks must serve a dual purpose.

“The whole idea is to do something that touches the audience and inspires them, but at the same time it should be something that even I enjoy,” Samir added.

For now, the 45-year-old is busy with his adopted daughter and his wife, actress Neelam Kothari. His baby will turn 10 months old soon.
