The festival is celebrated for five days starting from the Kartik ekadashi to Kartik purnima or the full moon day. This year the date of the festival is from 31 October to 6th of November.
The Pushkar Camel festival is probably the best known Camel Festival in the world with all the other livestock to be traded. The festival comprises of the numerous events right from trading of the livestock to all kinds of racing and the pageants.
There is a huge crowd of tourists, traders and pilgrims which are gathered in Pushkar to behold this incredible fair.
Participation
The fair is a huge congregation of around 2 ,00,000 people from all over the world along with camels, cattle, horses. Every year around 50000 camels along with cattle and horses are a part of this huge fair from all around Rajasthan. The fair takes place on the banks of Pushkar Lake and so all the farmers gather near the lake to sell and buy the livestock like camels, cows, goat and sheep. There are thousands of tourists who come from all across the globe to experience this great fair.
Pushkar Cattle Fair
In the initial two days the Pushkar Cattle fair takes place, following with the Pushkar Cultural fair which is held, the next two days. In the cattle fair, major activities of trading among the farmers takes place. Other than the trading, the camel race is one of the major events that are to be seen. Also there are various other competitions and shows that are the major part of the cattle fair.
Pushkar Cultural Fair
During the cultural festival, there is a huge celebration of folk music, dance and exhibitions. At the exhibitions you will find number of women at the stalls buying all kinds of ethnic jewellery, handicrafts, clothes and other fabrics. There are also events like kabaddi, tug of war and turban tying competitions for the local people as well as the tourists.
The Last Day
The last day of the festival is the main day that marks the full moon or the Poornima. This is the most important and the holy day. Thousands of people gather at the Pushkar Lake for the holy dip in the sacred waters. Pushkar also has India’s only Brahma Temple that is dedicated to the Lord Brahma.
