I Dare You – Explore These Adventure Sports Destinations In India!

Most avid adventure enthusiasts head to New Zealand for a heart-in-mouth experience. However, there are several options in India to get that adrenaline rush. Listed here are some of the best adventure sports destinations in India.

Chal, aaj kuch toofani karte hain…

If that is your state of mind right now, you are reading the right post. So what if your dream to go bungee jumping in New Zealand or skiing in Switzerland seems far-fetched, there are great options near home too. Adventure junkie or not, these destinations in India will surely give you your share of fun and excitement. And what more, these are perfect for a budget traveller. Jump down a deep valley, slide on snow and splash in rapids or just fly across the mountains; just go exploring any way you want!

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

This holy place in the foothills of Himalayas is thronged by devotees as much as adventure seekers. Although it is most popular for white-water rafting, Rishikesh has a lot more on offer like bungee jumping. Plunge yourself down the river valley at Rishikesh’s Jumpingheights, operated by Jump Masters from New Zealand. Recently the Bungee Jumping Festival was conducted in association with Jean Pascal in Bangalore during the month of January. The bungee jumping length in Rishikesh is about 80 meters, the highest known in India. Rishikesh also has Asia’s longest Flying Fox facility built, over the river Hiaul, with a 120 meter launch platform. Zippling and cliff jump are other options available in Rishikesh.

Netreni Island, Karnataka

This place is a hidden gem, really! The quiet and pristine island offers some of the best diving spots in India. This is also relatively a cheaper option than Andamans and Nicobar Island. Expeditions for scuba diving, deep sea diving and snorkeling in this island are conducted very frequently. Dive into the world under water and witness the beautiful coral reefs, varieties of butterfly fish, trigger fish and even parrot fish.

Deesa, Gujarat

Flying or falling, that is the dilemma! But, skydiving in Gujarat is an experience to cherish. Fly with the birds and have a bird’s eye view of the landscape of Gujarat. Indian Parachute Federation conducts skydiving operations in Deesa. They also offer courses on static line skydiving, tandem skydiving and accelerated free fall.

Gokarna, Karnataka

The calm and serene waters of Gokarna provide the perfect backdrop for a tranquil kayak ride. SwaSwara in Gokarna is the best place to check for kayaking in the two rivers that form the shape of cow’s ears. You can also kayak free-style with dolphins in Gokarna. One can hire kayaks at local shacks and you are ready for your own ride on the sea.

Hampi, Karnataka

If you are an admirer of rocks and mountains, head to Hampi, the place of ancient ruins. The landscape of Hampi is lined with large bare boulders, ancient fort ruins on mountain heads and steep creaky flakes. Rock climbing is very famous among foreigners here, though local tourists are largely unaware of the opportunity. One doesn’t really need to hire a guide, just follow your gut and climb-on.

Auli, Uttarakhand

This small and quaint little town offers some best slopes in India for skiing, besides breathtaking destinations views of Himalayas. Auli offers about 3 kms of skiing range, at an altitude of about 3000 meters on average. One can ski and relax at Bukhari’s beautiful resorts and log huts as well with a 500m long Ski-lift to carry the Skiers.

Travel is all about thrill, exploring and experiences for the lifetime.
