Djokovic, Nadal show down for Tour Finals title

World No. 1 Rafael Nadal and No. 2 Novak Djokovic will fight for the title of the ATP World Tour Finals after they beat Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka respectively here on Sunday. Nadal defeated six-time champion Federer 7-5, 6-3 in just one hour and 19 minutes to establish his record against the 17-time Grand Slam champion to 22 wins and 10 losses, reported Xinhua.

Djokovic, who beat Federer in last year’s final, defeated debutant Wawrinka, also from Switzerland, 6-3, 6-3. Nadal, who reached the final of the season-ending event in 2010, had lost all four previous meetings against Federer in the tournament.

“The most satisfying thing always is the tournament more than the personal victories,” Nadal said. “So for me it’s more important to be in the final in the last tournament of the year than having the chance to win against Roger. To be able to win the final is much more important than any victory against any opponent,” he added.

Federer made 32 errors to 14 from Nadal. The Swiss said: “I just struggled to stay consistent enough throughout the match, and that’s why he deserved to win. “I just couldn’t come up with the shots when I needed them, forehand or serve, moving forward,” Federer added. Djokovic, who has never lost to seventh seeded Wawrinka in their 14 meetings, has remained unbeaten in 21 matches. But he said that he is not unbeatable.

“Nobody’s unbeatable. Being at the present moment and taking it one step at a time helps me keep my focus,” the Serbian said. On Monday’s final against Nadal, Djokovic said: “It’s going to be a great final. I hope all the crowd will enjoy it because we definitely do on the court. It’s always a thrilling competition between me and Rafa.”
