Let’s admit it, men don’t have it easy when it comes to flaunting purses as they are either mocked by friends or chided by colleagues and made fun of by their partners. No man worth his macho-ness would be caught dead in a purse. But the multipurpose man purse, which is quite the rage in fashion circuits is a practical investment.
It ‘s good for mobile phones, a wallet, books and check books, writing material and spectacle cases. But how can a man carry it off without looking foolish? We tell you how…read on!
Size matters:
If you’re a tall guy, a tiny bag will look hideous. So, go for a bag that’s proportionate to your height and weight. If it’s too huge, it can look like a duffel than a man purse. Ideally, the purse should be large enough to hold your everyday essentials, but tiny enough to be able to differentiate between the purse and your other bags. If you are confused about what size to opt for, place the purse against your chest and see if it overshadows it or merely compliments it. Opt for the latter.
The shape:
As sexist as it sounds, you don’t want to look like a girl…do you? So your purse should be of a shape that screams macho without. Bold rectangles, fierce squares and funky asymmetrical shapes are perfect for a guy. Avoid round, oval and diamond as these are traditionally associated with women. Also, while picking your purse, look for rough edges, brazen finishes and bold straps. Because the daintier the shape, the more feminine its look. The best kind of a purse should be made out of distressed jeans material with rough edges and minimum zips and buttons.
Neutral colours:
However bold and experimental you may be, but a man purse in any other colour than black, brown, tan and mahagony is going to look stupid. The new age neon ones are a strict no-no. Deep chocolates, dusted tans, muted browns and rich mahagony are great options other than the standard black. But black will never go out of fashion!
Carry style:
The charm lies in how you carry the bag. Whether you let it hang loosely by your side or wear it across your chest, you have to make it look effortlessly easy and macho. If you exude confidence, nobody can really point and laugh at you. Carry it like you would your briefcase or duffel…think of the man purse as a necessity than a fashion statement. You would be less conscious then.
No fancy buckles:
Whatever you do, stay far away from fancy buckles. They look feminine, yes. But most importantly, they will clash with the rest of your wardrobe. You don’t have earrings, bracelets and other accessories to offset the flashy buckle. Go for a man purse that is low on bling and high on utility.
If you have the confidence and ‘I-care-a-damn’ attitude, nobody would be able to make fun of your man purse. Carry it off like it belongs with you and take on the world with your smile and style!
