How To Rock Purple Lipstick

We are sure that at some point in your make-up life, you came across this super edgy, super sexy, yet super difficult colour for your lips. It might be uber chic, but it does pose a bit of a problem when you have to pull off a colour as dark and intense as purple. Know your skin tone:
It’s quite important to know your skin tone as purple can either make your whole look pop or you make you swear off lipsticks forever. If you have a warm skin tone, opt for a bold shade of purple with a tinge of red tones to it. The darker your skin, the bolder the purple should be. That’s the thumbrule while working this colour. And if you are cool-toned, opt for any of the cooler shades of this colour, starting with mauve, light purple to bluish-purple!

 

 

Keep your eyes nude:
When you’re wearing a shade as fierce as this, you have to keep your eyes nude. Go for just a smudge of liner and cream or light rose eye shadow (just enough to define your eyes and not overwhelm your face). You can load up on mascara though, but keep it natural and flirty, not bold and ‘out there’. You have to let your lips do all the talking here. If you must experiment, go for natural-looking cat eyes or smoky eyes.

Dab on some shine:
Purple and other bold colours will make your lips look smaller, so it’s a good idea to dab a bit of shine on your lips (especially your cupid’s brow), so that you achieve the perfect pout. Going matt will make your lips look shrunken, so invest in a glossy lipstick when going violet.

Hair and make-up need to be simple:
No elaborate hairdos and no fierce make-up. Keep it all natural and simple. Remember, let your dazzling lips be the hero of the day. So, go for simple hairdos that will keep the focus on your lips and rose or blush-tinged make-up so that they don’t stand out like a sore thumb. Go for a matt foundation and defined cheekbones and keep everything else minimal. Tight ponytails, fishtails, side-swept hair, complicated hairdos are a strict no-no when you are planning to go purple.

Don’t wear on dry lips:
One of the worst things to do is to wear this shade on chapped and dry lips. Dry lips will crack and the colour will bleed. In order to avoid such a disaster, you must exfoliate, moisturise and prime your lips before applying this rich shade. Don’t forget to use a lip pencil to define your lips better.

The trick is in blending the shade with your skin, applying a generous amount of moisturizer and going minimal in the make-up and hair department.
