Oscar night is when Hollywood beauties put their best feet forward in gorgeous dresses, daring thigh-splits and plunging necklines. As the most important Sunday of February draws closer, we do a quick prediction on what you can expect at the Oscars this year. Take a look…
Monochrome dresses:
Black and red may be the colours that have ruled the Oscars for a long time, but it’s time to go monochrome this season. These dresses look statuesque and very red carpet chic when paired with the right footwear. One of the biggest advantages of doing monochrome is that it gives you plenty of options in the make-up department. You never have to worry about your outfit overwhelming your face and vice versa. Probably that’s why it’s one of the fashion favourites of actresses the world over. We so hope that somebody would go for this Tony Ward gown. Sigh.
Panel gowns showstopper:
If you have to make heads turn on the red carpet, you have to pull all stops . Being dainty and elegant is fine, but opting for panel gowns or gowns with space-inspired style and cuts are what we are looking forward to this season. Especially those like Anne Hathway and Emma Stone, who always choose the safe route when it comes to award nights. Will we see them or anybody else in this gorgeous black showtopper gown? We sure hope so.
Champagne straight-cuts:
Champagne seems to be the colour to rock this year. It’s elegant, versatile and smoking hot. Think Champagne and you’ll be reminded of Taylor Swift’s stunning straight-cut gown from the Grammys. The country singer may not have won any trophies, but she sure looked gorgeous. We are hoping to see other ladies go the same route at the Oscars as it would make a nice change from the blacks, reds and gaudy pinks. There are plenty of options in the style department too…from elegant updos to side-swept hair to gorgeous footwear and clutch options, this colour goes well with almost every combination there is!
Mint green gowns:
Mint green is THE colour of 2014. If you have been following fashion closely or even been reading up on blogs and ramp fashion, you’d know just why this colour is top of everybody’s minds. It’s elegant, red carpet-friendly (as it stands out against the bright background) and works well on European, Asian and Latino skins. This Zuhair Murad gown is on our lust-list and we are praying for somebody to wear this to the gala event. We do feel that Amy Adamns should give this one a try. We are pretty tired of her ‘in-character’ (read American Hustle) plunging necklines.
Gothic fashion:
Why don’t we ever see actress go full Goth at these events? Sure, Academy Awards are a big deal but that doesn’t mean that one can’t experiment. Goth, Goth-punk, Goth-Jazz are all cool trends to bring to the fancy red carpet. If not outfit-wise, it should be incorporated makeup-wise at least. We definitely want somebody to work this look. Will someone go the unsafe route? Let’s wait and watch!
All said and done, we want more glamour and daring fashion this time around. Oscars are the biggest event of the year and we want the women to go all out and bring the house down with their magical clothes and sexy sartorial choices.
