Whether you’re getting ready for your best friend’s wedding or going out drinking, the gold eyeshadow is a MUST have beauty fix-it. It’s rich, classy and uber sexy. But not many girls know how to rock this shade as it can look ‘too much’ if you get it wrong. Despite the colour not being too strong, it can come across as wannabe. So here are some tips to wear the sunshine shade like a pro. Read on!
Know the shade:
The thumbrule when it comes to picking up the right shade is the lighter your eyes and skin, the lighter the shade. That is, if you have light eyes and pale skin, go for muted golds that have just a bit of shine to them as darker tones can make you look old. If you’re warm-toned, choose a bold shade of gold as that will compliment your dusky complexion really well. If you want your eyes to pop, dab a bolder streak of gold on your crease and lightly dust it over your eyelids. You can dust some under your eyes, if you’re pairing the gold with an all-dark outfit.
Eyeliner:
This is the part that most women get wrong. Since gold is a very light, yet dazzling shade, keep your liner neutral. Go for muted browns, gold dusted-browns, light chocolates and muted mahogany. These shades will perfectly merge with your shadow, creating an effortlessly rich look. If you must use a black liner, dust over some gold shadow (gel-based) so that the black doesn’t look too stark. Some beauticians use midnight blue liner on gold shadow to create an illusion of bigger eyes. If you’re experimental enough, give it a try!
Lips:
Gold is a rather solidcolour as it stands out, so go for rose-tinted lips. While tangerine and coral look fabulous for an evening gala, roses, peaches and brink pinks are the shades for the day. Skip the lip liner when pairing it with gold so that your lips don’t take the attention away from your shadows. Keep your lips as natural as possible. It all depends on which feature you want to rock, really. If you want your lips to be the highlight and the shadow to compliment, go for a bright orange lipstick. But if it’s the other way round, go for mild tangerines. Simple, eh?
Brown blender:
This is a simple trick that will save your shadow from bleeding and/or smudging. Use brown shadow to blend the gold into your skin. Use your fingers (but don’t touch it to other parts of your face!) to smoothen out the edges of the shadow with a brown (that’s closest to your gold) so that the shadow covers your entire lids without looking clown-esque. You can dab a bit of brown near your tear ducts to give your eyes the much needed pop. Two-toning brown and gold is also a great way to wear your shadow. But it requires a lot of practice to get the look right.
Near natural light:
Gold can play tricks with your eyes, so stand near natural light while applying this shade. In order to know how the hue will look against your skin, work the colour under sunlight and do a patch test. If you’re not confident about a particular shade, use a light shade with brown undertones and you won’t go wrong. If you’re doing your make-up at night, use white bulbs instead of yellow-based ones.
