Fernando Alonso Quitting #Ferrari Is Good News For The F1 Giant

It may come as a ‘bad news’ for F1 team, Ferrari but Spaniard and former world champion Fernando Alonso is leaving Ferrari at the end of the season, Formula One team’s ex-chairman Luca di Montezemolo announced to the press.

Alonso, who was signed along with Kimi Raikkonen in what was a treat to the Ferrari fans, hardly had a crack at the top spot and has lagged behind the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

“Fernando is leaving for two reasons. One because he wants to cement himself in another environment. And two, because he’s at an age where he cannot wait to win again. He has been disappointed not to have won (the title) in these years and he needs a new stimulus,” Montezemolo was quoted on an Italian channel.

But just as Alonso gears up to leave the Italian F1 giants, news broke elsewhere as well where five-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel, will too be leaving Red Bull at the end of the season, thus rising the speculation of the German linking up with Ferrari.

Ferrari though won’t be dismantled or bogged down by the exit of Alonso. The Spaniard wasn’t a success with the Scuderia. Alonso, a double world champion with Renault, joined Ferrari in 2010 was a runner-up in the championship in three of the past four years. Since then, Ferrari is yet to win a race in more than a year and are currently languishing fourth overall in the Constructor’s Championship table.

Reports in the media suggest that Alonso is expected to return to McLaren, the team he left after one fraught season in 2007. Though, there might be a reunion there but Ferrari won’t miss their ‘old boy’. Alonso was never a threat to the lead racers in the pack and only posed a threat to the world champion during the 2012-13 season in a nail-biting finish. The 34-year old had a good engine to drive at, a good team of engineers and a rival partner who was once a threat to the likes of Michael Schumacher and Alonso himself!

The Spaniard told reporters before the Russian GP that, “I’m no longer annoyed when people keep asking me. I was (annoyed) at the last race, but I am more relaxed with it. It is getting so close to the end of the season, it is actually getting funny. But I’m not worried or scared with regard to whatever direction I go in the future.”

Sadly, the future looks bleaks for Alonso but not for Ferrari!
