Maa Durga has nine forms, she is worshipped with many names such as Kali, Parvati, Gauri, Shakti, Bhavani and Jagadamba. Maa Durga is a symbol of power.

And Navratri is a 9-days-long festival in which we worship each form of Maa Durga for nine days.

The tradition of worshipping Goddess Durga is going on since ages, and I am sure each person who belongs to Hinduism, must be known to this festival cum tradition but have you ever wondered that what was actually the origin of Maa Durga?

Well! If not then we are here to help you out and tell you everything about the origin of Goddess Durga.

According to popular stories, the origin of Goddess Durga happened only to fight against the evil powers of the society. It is said that the demon named Mahishasur who was very powerful and could have taken the form of buffalo and human at his own will, Actually he once impressed Bhrama Ji with his austerity. Then Brahma Ji asked him to make a wish and assured him to fulfil the same, he asked for the blessing of immortality, but Brahma said that each one who born will have to die someday, and told him to ask something else.

Then Mahishasura thought very carefully and said, ‘You bless me that none of the Gods, Devils and human beings can kill me. I die by the hand of a woman. Brahma Ji agreed and blessed him with the same. With this Mahishasur started thinking that he had become immortal. In this hypocrisy, he made terror in all the three worlds known as Triloka. He also attacked the Gods of IndraLok.

All Lords troubled by Mahishasura went to Brahma Ji, then everyone together formed the Goddess Durga. Every God and Goddess had given one of their traits to Goddess Durga, for example, Lord Shiva Trishul, Lord Vishnu chakra, Lord Vayu Arrow etc., therefore Goddess Durga has the power of all the Gods. Goddess Durga fought for nine days to overcome Mahishasura’s negativity. On a ninth day, the mother killed Mahishasur. Hence Navratri is celebrated for nine days.

Goddess Durga is also a symbol of affection and sweetness, but she is equally aggressive for the devils. Goddess Durga was originally meant to kill Mahishasur. He killed Mahishasur with his lions and arms. You must have seen this form of Goddess often in photos and idols and for this reason, he is also called Mahishasur Maardani. Goddess Durga is considered as the power to eliminate evil from the world.

Durga is considered very loving and loyal to her devotees, so this Navratri lets worship Goddess Durga with your purest feelings that she will destroy all the evil forces around you.

And lastly, before any worship or any tradition, always make sure to not hurt others and be careful about your deeds. Because at the end the good will treat you on the basis of your Karma not the amount of time that you devoted to them. Yes, it is really important and good to keep the god in your heart but at the same time, your deeds should also be equally good.
