One of the mushiest days of the year brings with it a gnawing question, should you think with your head or use your heart!
Love and romance may be matters of the heart, but it’s being practical and world-weary that will help you survive in the world. When should you use your head and when to go knocking on your heart?
Well, let’s find out…
First flush of romance:
The beginnings of any romance is fresh, beautiful, mushy and insanely romantic. It has all the flavours of a rom-com, peppered with gifts and mist-covered dreams. During your initial days, it’s better to go with the flow and think with your heart. Because too much ‘naap-tol’ of the situation will rob you off love. Soak in the romance, see where it goes and do what your heart says.
Going the distance:
There will come a time when you would have to walk the distance in your relationship. Whether it’s as simple as moving from the first date to the second or moving cities/countries for each other, the decisions are invariably made with your heart. You will probably go and stay with your partner in Antartica, considering how much you love him/her. But is it worth giving up all your dreams, goals and ambitions? Use both your heart and head to get out of a situation like this. Your heart will long for their company as it’s an emotional tool, but it’s your head that will tell you what’s good and bad for you.
Breaking-up:
If things aren’t working out between the two of you, don’t involve your heart in it. Go straight to your head. The more practical organ will help you tide over the tough times and not let you get zapped in the emotional turmoil of your heart. Break-ups are difficult, painful and ugly, but sometimes, it’s necessary to part ways in order to keep sane. When making such decisions, your heart will never come to your rescue because it works on the principle of ‘used to your behaviour’.
Forgiveness:
Whether it’s forgiving a cheating partner or a lying spouse, always think with your heart. Because forgiveness is a kind gesture that only the heart can understand. Your brain is too mechanical to process the intricacies of your relationship. It will ask you quit, run and never look back. But that’s not how we function, do we? We analyze, process and think over it and ultimately forgive the person to give him/her a second chance.
Getting over him/her:
You are going to hurt yourself silly by thinking about him/her. But the best way to get over someone is to think with your head and not heart. Think of the all the reasons that caused you two to part ways. The reason why you’re where are you are. May be the initial days were amazing and funny, but what about the present? Is it suffocating and boring? There, you have your answer. If you go to your heart for answers, it will only show you the good times and make you look like a fool for having let go of such a person. But it’s your mind that will tell you the whys and hows of getting over him/her.
Nobody really knows which tool to use to have a happy ending.
Should be so cold and calculating to use only our brains or be emotional fools and give into our hearts?
Whatever you decide to do, think of your happiness. Where does your happiness lie? Remember, think with your head… but follow your heart.
