More Storm Brewing For Congress: Natwar Singh’s Autobiography Set For Release

It seems the problems for the decimated Congress party are not going to be over yet. After the shock of former media advisor Sanjaya Baru’s book The Accidental Prime Minister, and current trouble over not getting the post of leader of opposition, some more skeletons from the Congress cupboard are ready to come out.

Veteran Congress leader and former external affairs minister Kunwar Natwar Singh is all set to release his autobiography One Life is Not Enough in late July or early August according to The Hindu.

It will be Singh’s second book giving an account of his memories in the government, first being Walking with the Lions: Tales from a Diplomatic Past.

The speculation of the book being more explosive in its aspects is high. It should be noted that once very close to Gandhi family, Singh was forced to resign after the revelations of the Volcker report on the oil-for-food scam. Facing humiliation in his party which he served for 35 long years, Singh had resigned from the party in 2008. Since then he has been writing explosive columns and comments against former UPA government and Gandhi family.

The report in the newspaper says that the book gives a detailed account of Singh’s proximity to former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, but more pertinently to events post-Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination in 1991.

The information which Singh was privy to – Narsimha Rao’s selection as PM at 10 Janpath in 1991 and later Manmohan Singh’s in 2004 – which are speculated to row a trouble for Sonia Gandhi.

The insider account, that Natwar has proved to be giving quite perfectly in his last book, is expected to give us a look into the India-US nuclear deal which Singh was a big part of.
