Star Sports channel have taken a whole new step forward towards sports entertainment by launching 6 channels (Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4, HD1 and HD2) along with the website www StarSports.com. Out of the all the 6 channels, Star Sports 3 will venture in Hindi and will be India’s first Hindi sports channel. Whoa! Some competition for ESPN and Prime Sports as viewers will now take pleasure in watching their favourite games including cricket tournaments,English Premier League and more across 7 mediums.
With a clever marketing and advertising of the channel, that began one week ago had left many of us curious to know as to what is in store for us (the channel slated a countdown).
Alas, November 6, which also happens to be Sachin’s 199th Test match, was the day when Star Sports re-launched itself. Their brand ambassador is none other than Indian skipper MS Dhoni who also features in the print advertisements and a TV commercial. Star is already running a campaign for Sachin’s last match as a shout out to cheer for Sachin (#Sachin Sachin)
But as we start to get excited about the ‘whole revolution’ and ‘believe’ in the brand power, it might just feel that Star Sports has taken a leaf from the Sky Sports books! Yes, Sky Sports – the UK based Sports channel that airs various sports including the English Premier League and also has its own Sky Sports News channel. Sky Sports too has 6 channels with 2 HD and gives first priority to Football and Cricket.
Call it aping or whatever, Star Sports’ new branding will slowly and steadily, start to weave its magic on Indian sports lovers mind!
