His remarkable life journey is worth a dekko and that’s why have we have compiled some interesting facts about Manohar Aich :
1… He was independent India’s first Mr. Universe. In 1950, at the age of 38, Manohar won the Mr. Hercules contest as well. In 1951, he stood second in the Mr. Universe contest. In 1952, he finally won the Mr. Universe title. After winning this title he was soon popular worldwide.
2… He had also won the World Championship of Spring Pulling by tearing a spring of 275 pounds tension. He had clinched three gold medals in the Asian Games held in 1951 , 1954, and 1958.
3…. After winning so many titles, he never discontinued. He did many bodybuilding shows. He did his last show in the year 2003 when he was 90.
4… He is dubbed as “Pocket Hercules” for his short stature. His height was just 4.11 ft.
5… His tryst with exercising and body building had started when he joined British Royal Air force in the year 1942. He was quoted saying by Indian express. “It was 1942 and the Quit India movement had gathered considerable momentum. I had been working as a physical instructor in the Royal Indian Air Force, when I protested against the British oppression at the camp. I slapped a British officer, who made an offensive remark against the Indians during the interrogation”.
6…. Did you know that Aich never ever smoked or drank alcohol? Now we know why he is ‘The Manohar Aich’.
7… Unfortunately, he breathed his last at his Dum Dum residence. Aich died due to age-related ailments. He is survived by four children. His two sons have followed their father’s path and have their gym and akhara.
