Barely two days after it distributed 25 lakh copies of the letter written by Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party claims to have received 10 lakh responses till now from the public over government formation possibilities in Delhi.
The referendum that AAP is holding had a clear question: Whether AAP should form a government with Congress or not?
AAP already had it pick. And today, party leader Manish Sisodia threw hints that AAP was going to “form government in delhi” with Congress as the referendum results so far “indicated” towards it.
Now this was in front of our eyes and AAP kept us engaged enough not to blurt it out outrightly.
In what should be called a masterstroke in the dead political scenarios of Delhi, AAP had an upper hand however the situations moved. While it kept its ‘safe’ distance from its adversaries Congress and BJP, it also explored the possibilities of forming a government with the help of any of these parties in a closed door meeting.
All this while, AAP was bluffing and we were just not able to call it.
When AAP gave a spectacular debute in the Delhi assembly elections coming in the second place just damaging BJP enough so that it cannot form the government, its leadership was very well aware of its coveted position. Rather than speak outrightly over forming the government, they stood firm on their stand of not forming a coalition with either of the parties giving them quite a hard time.
And it reaped result as expected. Since the election results came out, not a single day has passed when Kejriwal and his party members have not accused Congress and its leaders of fooling the public, eating public money and making merry in their VIP cars and bunglows. Yet Congress extended an “unconditional support” to AAP for forming the government in Delhi.
AAp indulged in delaying tactics. Sending letter to its adversaries mentioning random demands which would not have even defined the kind of coalition it expected from either of them. But AAP did it.
It evaded responsibility and threw the weight of decision making on the shoulder of the people so that when an undesired outcome comes nobody blames the party.
The referendum was held just in case they wanted to form the government. Who knows what outcome the referendum will bear? There is no third unbiased party involved which will keep a count of the result.
Yet AAP will come out on Monday and say that they will form the government because people wanted them to do so.
It was already a win-win for them and now they are close to realizing that win.
