Will The New Laws Really Bring A Change?
The Indian Constitution is the longest constitution written in the world with 448 articles in 24 parts, 12 schedules and 97 amendments.
Time and again there is an addition of new laws in the constitution of the country. We have the laws for every social doings like attempting a suicide, drinking at a legal age, smoking in a public place etc. But the major problem is that the government is unable to keep a complete check on these laws of whether they are rightly managed or not.
There is no scarcity of the rule breakers in this country and therefore only coming up with new rule every day cannot be the sole solution.
The Government of India is planning to revise laws of smoking in which the fine rate increases from Rs. 200 to Rs. 1000. Also, along with it they will be revising the laws of smoking like increasing the legal age of buying tobacco products from 18 to 21 and also banning the sale of loose cigarettes.
The problem is even with such laws; it doesn’t really stop people from smoking and drinking. Even after having a legal age of drinking as 25 years in Maharashtra, there are numerous people who drink and are under age.
Although, smoking in a public place is prohibited since a very long time still you will find many number of people who smoke fearlessly in the crowd without any problems. In fact you will find so many rickshaw and taxi drivers who smoke even while driving which is so very dangerous for the driver as well as the passengers. But unfortunately there is nobody to stop them with such things.
Also one great insight is that India is a home for second largest women smokers in world which makes the situation more vulnerable.
Making up a law is not at wrong but at the same time it is very important to keep a check on the thing that whether the laws that are made does actually work or not.
Everyone is completely aware of the fact that smoking is very injurious to health, and the government is trying to cure this problem with the high amount of laws. What is more important is that we first be sure to make these laws work effectively for the society.
Thus, with the recent thought of revising these laws for smoking we really look forward that the government put in equal measures to make these laws efficiently in the favour of the public!
