Dear MLA Kejriwal, Why Didn’t You Clean Delhi?

Kejriwal is an MLA and cleaning Delhi was AAp’s one of the main agendas. Why did he wait for a Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan?

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his desire to clean India from the national platform of Red Fort, he made it sound like some small dream of a small man.

But it was an ultimate masterstroke played by him which snatched the Mahatma from Congress and the whole ideology from AAP.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was so frustrated by the announcement of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan”, that he ended up making silly statements. He said that the Clean India Mission cannot clean India per se. After all, it was AAP which started the custom of cleaning drains and streets while on election campaign.

Now that the Delhi is lampooning between an election and government formation by hook and crook by any of the parties, this mission is bound to take some attention and swing votes.

When PM Modi invited Kejriwal and his party to join the campaign, he hesitated first. But then he realized that he was the unintended beneficiary of the scheme.

On October 2, Kejriwal was seen cleaning the drain near Prime Minister’s house. Now the news is, “as part of its concerted effort to take the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan forward, the Aam Aadmi Party will submit more than 3,000 photographs of garbage waiting to be cleaned across the city to the city’s three municipal corporations,” as per the Indian Express.

Apparently, the party had asked people to submit photographs of garbage that has piled up in any part of the city and send it to the party’s WhatsApp number 8588833540. The residents responded quite well and more than 3,000 photographs have been collected by AAP.

“We appeal to the people of Delhi to not remain quiet in case they see garbage anywhere. Please click a photograph and submit it to your local civic authority office along with a complaint. Alternately, please send us that photograph with details of the location on the helpline,” Kejriwal had said on Saturday.

“AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh, along with other leaders will meet the mayors of the three BJP-ruled corporations on October 7. They will submit these photographs and seek cleaning of the spots shown in the pictures. The AAP has also decided to post all the photographs on its website,” the IE quoted an AAP leader saying.

But the AAP was also quick to add: “The civic bodies have shied away from their work and indulged in a great deal of corruption, even in issues of cleaning the city. The idea is to keep the pressure on the civic bodies to ensure that the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan doesn’t just remain symbolic,” a senior leader told IE.

Now the interesting part is that the AAP formed its government in Delhi in December 2013.

Kejriwal was CM until he resigned after 49 days.

But Kejriwal remains an MLA from New Delhi constituency till date. He has 18 MLAs in his stride. Cleaning was one of the main agendas of the party.

Why didn’t he work?

Was he waiting for Naredra Modi to become PM and launch Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan?
