There is still some buzz in the air which says that Congress will come up with a solution to save Lalu’s future. Maybe Abhijit’s meeting was an indication of that.
President Pranab Mukherjee’s son and Congress MP Abhijit Mukherjee met RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav in Birsa Munda jail where he has been locked up in fodder scam case. The visit comes soon after RJD decided that Lalu and Rabri Devi will jointly lead the party.
Since there is no close connection between the two other than being colleagues, we wonder why Abhijit chose to meet Lalu? What importance does the meeting hold?
Perhaps, Abhijit went there in order to keep up with the latest trend in Congress where there is a public insult followed by a private apology.
The drama which sealed the fate of RJD chief, supposedly, was pulled up by Pranab Mukherjee in Congress’ hour of need. The ordinance which was created by Sonia Gandhi to save Lalu, had to be withdrawn by the government in order to undo the damage caused to the party because of it. It was also to project Rahul Gandhi’s image as a man who speaks the language of youth and integrity among the public.
When Mukherjee summoned the cabinet ministers, who had cleared the ordinance, he indicated his support towards Rahul Gandhi while doing so. Although there are many more Congress men whose dirty hands will face the axe of the Supreme Court judgement which the ordinance was to negate, Lalu became immediate collateral damage in the case.
He must have also informed Lalu about the rift that they have clearly been able to deepen further between BJP and JD(U). Reportedly, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has invited his father, the president, on the same date which is booked for BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Apparently, there is no land left for Modi to address his rally in the state capital.
Lalu’s captivity is a real ticket for Congress to explore the world in Bihar. There is still some buzz in the air which says that Congress will come up with a solution to save Lalu’s future. Maybe Abhijit’s meeting was an indication of that.
