The BJP has been denying all the charges of horse-trading until AAP released the sting video. But it must acknowledge the fact that it created grounds for the same itself.
After crowing for months, the Aam aadmi Party finally did what it taught others – a sting operation.
The party on Monday released a video which showed some Bhartiya Janata Party leaders allegedly poaching AAP legislators in a bid to form the government in Delhi. BJP leaders Sher Singh Dagar is seen purportedly offering Rs.4 crore to AAP MLA from Sangam Vihar, Dinesh Mohania in the video.
“The BJP has been wooing our MLAs for the last one month but we will not let them come to power… They are betraying the people of Delhi,” AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said in the press brief organized to release the sting video.
The BJP has been denying all the charges of horse-trading until AAP released the sting video.
But it must acknowledge the fact that it created grounds for the same itself.
It should be noted that Delhi has been under President’s rule since Kejriwal resigned as chief minister on February 14 merely after 49 days in office. AAP might have given a spectacular debut in the assembly elections but it was BJP which had emerged as the single largest party with 31 seats in the 70-member house.
BJP was right until it waited for the Lok Sabha elections. But after they won the general elections by landslide and clinched all the seven seats in Delhi, it should have called for fresh elections in the capital rightaway. The party could have gained immediately from the people’s positive vibe and AAP fall which was happening from all sides.
The party now has 28 legislators after three were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections held April-May. Even when the leader – Dr Harsh Vardhan – was chosen for a higher job, the party did not make any effort to choose a new face for Delhi. The party could have called for fresh elections that time too where if AAP and Congress dithered, it should have shown them working in tandem. Butit failed to do so.
Also, the BJP gave ample time to AAP to revive itself. Not only this, now Shiela Dikshit is back from her governor job and Congress may field her again given she ruled the prime seat for 15 years. But still BJP cannot make its mind.
And how more careless can they be? With AAP itching to show the world that they are right and crow from the mountain top, how can the BJP leaders not behave?
Now the party has decided not to defend Dagar and his act. Even now BJP has the chance to win if it calls for fresh elections as it has its own government at the centre and it may gain from the votes splitting three ways.
But will it find the courage at all?
