The third front in the country had never been able to form a government either without BJP or Congress. Also, none of these party’s fortune, except AIADMK, are on the rise.
At a time when the talks of ‘third front’ formation is high and leaders like Nitish Kumar, H Deve Gowda and Mulayam Singh are coming together to give people a possible alternative than Congress and Bhartiya Janata Party, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa is clinching deals with the left.
In a surprise move, the AIADMK chief forged alliance with CPI and CPM giving big example of this ‘third front’ taking shape well. With 39 lok sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa can be a possible king maker, or even a queen.
While the JD(U) in Bihar, JD(S) in Karnataka and Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh are already a step away from making it official, rumors are that they are trying to rope in BJD of Odisha in this alliance to enhance the size of the blow they may give in future.
Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal is perhaps the only party which still thinks of joining Congress whereas Ramvilas Paswan’s LJP may end up in this ‘third front’.
This alliance, till now, was anti BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as Mulayam’s loyalty towards Congress and Nitish enmity with BJP is a fact. But addition of Amma, who was last seen sharing stage with Modi and presenting him a bouquet when he was about to take oath for the third time as Gujarat chief minister, is a confusing addition. Her fallout with Congress is a well-known phenomenon and the parties joining hands with this ‘third front’ are actually those who do not want to be a part of Congress’ sealed failure.
This anti-Congress and anti-BJP front is actually a misleading herd as none of these party’s fortune, except AIADMK, are on the rise. The Nitish government is gong down in Bihar and the Mulayam Singh Yadav’s claim of 80 lok sabha seats is nowhere near the culmination.
Plus, Mayawati’s BSP will never come near the SP or Congress. Similar is the case with Mamata Banerjee’s TMC which is fighting the left in West Bengal. But it will be no wonder if they end up in this collage trying to consolidate their position.

All these said ‘secularist’ parties are supporting Congress from outside which means that may be helpful for Congress or vice versa in case Modi’s eventual numbers are far below than what the various opinion polls are projecting. With Amma’s addition to this third front, the personal agenda of these splinter groups will create a big friction. If they at all will be able to overcome it, the third front will remain small entity.
So, is this just a noise before Modi is made the king?
