In the video, two police officers reportedly admitted to having delayed taking action to contain the violence under “political pressure”. They were transferred on Tuesday night. The police termed the transfers as routine.
Just 12 hours after Army left the riot hit Muzaffarnagar, the chief judicial magistrate of the area issued non-bailable arrest warrants against 16 politicians and other leaders accused of inciting the mob and infliction riots in the area. These include BSP MP Qadir Rana, BJP MLAs Sangeet Som and Bhartendu Singh, BSP MLAs Noor Saleem and Maulana Jameel, Congress leader Saeeduzaman and BKU chief Naresh Tikait among others.
Ten teams were sent to arrest the accused but no one has been arrested so far. Som had been visiting his constituency (Sardana) and he almost mocked the police saying he didn’t know where the police was searching him.

Meanwhile, SP member Azam Khan called the sting a fake and asked for harshest puniishment if found guilty. “The news channel which has aired the sting operation should itself a conduct a probe into it….All my phone numbers including that of my residence and office should be scanned…And if I am found guilty, the channel should tell the punishment for me…I will accept the harshest of punishments, if found guilty….I am not that type of a person,” Khan told reporters.
Khan said that he has never interfered in administrative or police working and would “prefer to die instead of doing something like that”.
Whiile BJP legislators, against whom arrest warrants were issued, dared the government to arrest them by attending the UP Assembly which is in session. BJP’s former president Nitin Gadkari accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of indulging in votebank politics. “He wears a white cap and seeks votes,” Gadkari said in an interview to a news channel asking for the resignation of the UP government. “The BJP’s leaders never give communal speeches and do not indulge in votebank politics,” he said adding that the BJP believes in equal rights for all communities. “Anyone who indulges in a communal action against a Hindu is not a true Muslim and similarly anybody acting against a Muslim is not a true Hindu,” he said.
Party’s current president demanded Article 356 to be implemented in the state, which has also been demanded by BSP’s Mayawati.
Just two days back, prime minister Manmohan Singh had met the riot victims along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi which was called a vote-bank tactics by the opposition. The questions have also been valid. Not only the state government had been slackening in its attitude, the central government too had just fulfilled its quorum by giving assurances only.
The plain events of brutality which appeared on the scene after the killing of a boy who was accused of stalking a girl by her brothers, and later killing of both boys, were nothing but administrative failure. The SP government had been pussyfooting about the communal clashes in its backyard for very long, but why it kept complaining to the central government rather than doing something about it is a matter of questioning. Was it happy with the way things were moving? Was it thinking that the situation will only inflict damage to the opposition who has been named in the FIRs?
The onus is also on the central government. Congress has done nothing till now to punish its own people involved in the dastardly act. While it let the intel on Uma Bharati and Jama Masjid Imam’s entrance in the state leading to their detention, it went ahead with its own vote-mongering by the top-most leaders of the party.
And this all turns out to be true, it would have been done for petty politics by the state and central government which led to killing of over 50 people and displacement of thousands who are now not ready to return to their homes.
