The two leaders are all set to hold official meeting in the Oval office of the White House.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama came face-to-face on Monday when the latter hosted a banquet in the honour of former.
They discussed few things in the meeting which lasted for 90 minutes.
The meeting was more of a personal bonding and tit-bits on what they are going to discuss later on. The details regarding their joint editorial in a leading US journal was also discussed.
Now the two leaders are all set to hold official meeting in the Oval office of the White House.
So what will be the areas of their talk?
DNA reports: “US President Barack Obama will have a strong focus on defense and security issues, senior US administration officials said on Friday. Energy, climate change and trade and economy would be other major areas of discussion when Obama and Modi meet for two consecutive days next week at the White House in Washington, which officials said would help the two leaders know each other and establish a personal rapport between them.
The two leaders are expected to discuss about how the US can partner with India on its economic goals and objectives, including priorities that Modi has put forward with respect to infrastructure, with respect to manufacturing and skills.”
On the other hand, Washington Post says in an article: “The White House has a chance to contrast Modi’s visit against the bilateral meeting between Modi and Xi in New Dehli two weeks ago. Their discussions were designed to highlight increased economic ties, but the meeting was overshadowed by a tense standoff between Chinese and Indian troops along the border in the Ladakh region in the north of India.
The Obama administration probably will attempt to enlist New Delhi to pressure China to cease its maritime aggression in the South China Sea and likely will push for greater investment from India in East Asia to help bolster Obama’s so-called “rebalance” of U.S. attention to the region, analysts said.
At the same time, however, the president will have to assuage growing doubts among the Indian leadership about the U.S. commitment to its regional partners at a time when the administration is preoccupied by Russian aggression in Eastern Europe and a U.S. military campaign against radical Islamists in the Middle East.”
However, CNBC-TV18 expects “nothing significant on the crucial IPR, WTO-related matters, bilateral investment treaties, among others. This meeting is expected to be all about building a personal relationship with US President Barack Obama and his administration.”
After holding talks with President Obama, the Prime Minister will be meeting Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry who would host him for lunch at the Foggy Bottom headquarters in the State Department.
