With TMC and AIADMK throwing up new political equations, BJP has all the more reason to cheer. It will be no wonder if the next in line standing with Jaya-Mamata will be Mayawati of BSP. Till now, it is happy women’s day, for BJP.
The dynamic political scenarios of the country saw another shift when Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa rang her counterpart West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee. This has opened up the possibilities of a post-poll realignment of regional parties.
Interestingly, it happens after Trinamool Congress chief announced on television said that she was willing to accept Jayalalithaa as Prime Minister. Reportedly, the two chief ministers spoke for 15 minutes and agreed to take joint decision after election results are announced.
The call also follows the breaking of understanding between AIADMK and Left in Tamil Nadu over seat sharing.
Banerjee had been very vocal about the federal front formation at the centre excluding the Congress and BJP which did not seem reality till third front was taking shape. In fact, there were speculations that Jayalalithaa will join the third front but she ditched the idea in last minute.
It should be noted that Jayalalithaa’s proximity with BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is new found. When in West Bengal, Modi chose to be polite about Mamata and her achievements rather than chiding her as an opponent.
It is a known fact that TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu, Odisha Chief Minister and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik and YSR Congress leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy too have not entirely ruled out an alliance with the BJP after the elections. Lalu’s former ally in Bihar, LJP’s Ramvilas Paswan has already joined BJP.
The third front which has been formed by Samajwadi Party, Left, JD(U) and other smaller parties has many heads who want to be the next PM. Their inner differences, which may not be visible now, are bound to pull them down.
This third front is, however, harmful for the health of BJP as it has all the characteristics of helping Congress in the aftermath of elections.
