On Thursday, mutilated body of a 30-year-old woman drenched in blood was found inside a school’s premises in Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The women’s lower body parts bore severe wound marks and there were dragging blood marks in the school ground.
According to doctors examining the body, the victim was subjected to extreme pain with a blunt object as wooden stick was thrust inside vaginal and anal area. The victim started bleeding profusely and the men dragged her to a classroom and sexually abused her. The panel of doctors confirmed that the victim’s corpse had a total of 12 injuries, abrasions and contusions on the lower abdomen.
The culprits attacked the victim with batons and hit her face, chest, waist and private parts. The woman’s body lying in pool of blood was spotted by local villagers, just six kilometres from a village that former US president Bill Clinton had visited on Monday.
The investigation by the police later revealed that the young woman was a widow and had two children. She was working in the laboratory in the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS). A missing person’s report was filed by the family of the woman. They said the victim was missing from her residence inside the SGPGIMS campus since Wednesday evening. The family members have also recognised the body and other items of the woman found from the spot.
Even after four days of the brutal incidence, the Uttar Pradesh police are clueless about the case. The chief minister of state, Akhilesh Yadav, is moving with the same careless attitude and has no answer to the daily rape cases coming to the fore.
The victim’s family have demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident and said the culprits should be hanged.
Meanwhile, the media and people started questioning the safety situation of the state. It should be noted that just two days ago, the people of Hathras district were staging a massive protest against the government on another rape case.
In this case, a 22-year-old girl was abducted by the four criminals from Jaswant Nagar on last Saturday, repeatedly gang raped and finally set on fire on Monday. Jaswant Nagar is a constituency represented by none else but SP chief Mulayam Singh’s brother Shivpal Yadav, one of the most powerful ministers in the Akhilesh Yadav cabinet. Also, it falls is Etawah, the CM’s home district.
The outrage in the public and media over repeated rape cases – each being more brutal from the other – has not found any answer from the father-son duo ruling the state till now.
While Mulayam Singh Yadav said incidents of rape in UP were minimal in proportion to its huge population, his younger brother and cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav said crimes in UP were more visible as it was a big state. Another SP minister, Raj Kishore, went to the extent of saying that law and order have improved in UP as compared to the previous BSP regime.
“If anywhere such crimes (rapes) are minimum, it is in UP. The state has a population of 21 crore. Considering that, such incidents are very less,” Mulayam expostulated when questioned by reporters. Taking a cue from Mulayam, younger brother Shivpal said in Kanpur: “UP is a big state with a huge population. Crimes that happen here become more noticeable.”
“Law and order in the state has improved a lot under the SP regime. It has never been so good,” UP minister Raj Kishore said in Basti. “Under the BSP regime, even FIRs were not registered to show a decline in crime. Under our government, each and every criminal case is being registered and prompt action is being taken.”
It should be noted that the statement is coming from a person who wanted to be the Prime Minister of the country and had formed the third front to fulfill the same desire. It should also be taken into account that Mulayam Singh’s party has been decimated to five family seats in the Lok Sabha elections in the state and that he supports crimes such as rape because, according to him, “boys will be boys” and they will “make mistake”.
Time has come when centre should take action against the state and advises President’s rule for the law and order situation has failed. And we must ensure that Mulayam rests peacefully in retirement home after the UP assembly elections.
