AAP is constituted by people and NGOs who have found mention in the IB report. Arvind Kejriwal himself was a part of the anti-nuclear plant agitation in Kudankulam mentioned in the report.
In the wake of the Intelligence Bureau report on foreign-funded NGOs and direct allegations on the Greenpeace India, the home ministry has served the organization a show cause notice asking why its permission to get foreign funding under Foreign Contribution (regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA) should not be withdrawn. The IB has called Greenpeace “a threat to national economic security” in its 21 page long report.
At least 10 more NGOs, who have found mention in the IB report, will be sent similar notice within a week.
What was more striking was the mention of the political party Aam Aadmi Party’s name in the report for engaging with such NGOs who were actively taking part in political activity which is prohibited under FCRA. It is a well known fact that the Aam Aadmi Party is constituted by people who have been running or are part of one or another NGO in the country which are foreign funded.
AAP leader Medha Patkar is associated with Narmada Bachao Andolan and has been agitating against the Narmada dam for ages. According to a report in desh Gujarat, the delays in the last 10 years due to NBA has cost nearly 45000 crores to the Narmada dam which is more than the cost of the project itself. A recent report in IBTL gave detailed proofs to show that she has links to negative foreign elements who provide her funds in lieu of anti-development protests in the country.
A few months back, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had agitated against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant – a name that finds mention in the IB report too. Kejriwal had extended his support to SP Udayakumar (who later became candidate from AAP in LS 2014 elections) and his People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy which has been involved in agitation against 16 nuclear power plants in India.
The IB report claims Udayakumar, who was active in the protests against the Kudankulam nuclear plant, had “deep and growing connections with US and German entities”. Interestingly, Udayakumar disclosed on a national television that he did receive heavy funding from abroad and research funding from Ohio University. But he mentioned that it was not for research either on nuclear energy or on nuclear plants. What was the funding for he failed to disclose.
Two other NGOs – Cordaid and HIVOS – which found mention in the IB report are Dutch organisations working in India. Reportedly, Cordaid first operated in Kashmir for Human Rights and later suddenly turned to the North East sector focusing on Palmolein and mining and Uranium in the NE. According to estimates, there are 90000 tons of Uranium deposits in the NE but due to continuous agitation by these NGOs, nothing has been done to extract them helping energy security of India. It should be noted that both these NGOs have funded Arvind Kejriwal and his NGOs and IAC.
The way Arvind Kejriwal changed his stance from anti-corruption to anti-Modi during the Lok Sabha elections was actually a move against development of the country. It makes us revisit the claims made by Sunday Guardian where it had quoted a retired US official: “Hillary Clinton likes to operate through NGOs, which are given funding through indirect channels, and which target individuals and countries seen as less than respectful to her views on foreign and domestic policy in the target countries. Rather than US NGOs, (the former) Secretary of State Clinton favoured operating through organisations based in the Netherlands, Denmark and the Scandinavian countries, especially Norway as these were outside the radar of big power politics. These NGOs were active in the agitation against the Russian nuclear power plant at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu, with funding coming mainly from a religious organisation based in Europe that has close links with France”.
It is a well known fact that Clinton has been against PM Narendra Modi and did not want see him become the PM of India. As she is in for the Presidential race in US, it will become difficult for her weild power over India in case she succeeds in elections.
AAP and Kejriwal cannot remain silent on the issue. They will have to answer the allegations and clear their agenda. Else, the country has already discarded them in Lok Sabha elections, the IB report will become a big reason for getting rid of them soon.
