Hopeful that the said form will separate chaff from wheat, Rahul has decided to distribute it to the upcoming assembly election (Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram) aspirants from Congress. The form will test candidates’ knowledge about the constituency and party’s performance there. He believes that the move will also help the party comply with Supreme Court’s order to not give tickets to the candidates having criminal precedents.
Well, how much can Rahul really stay away from the real issues? The arithmetic that goes behind giving a ticket and winning a constituency will not jump out of a form. You may be able to eliminate those who have criminal background, but you cannot win people’s heart there. And what is the probability that aspirants won’t lobby screening committee members even if your ‘application to admission’ is in place?
If at all Congress succeeds in stopping people with criminal background from coming into the election ground, the number of Congress candidates will go down so low that your party will be forced to give tickets to candidates with unwanted background. This will only turn your form into a farce. After all, the top leaders of your government have criminal cases against them pending in the courts.
