As ASI digs a temple campus in Unnao for unearthing thousand tonnes of gold, BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi took a dig at the government mocking the excavation.
As Archaeological Survey of India digs a temple campus in Unnao for unearthing thousand tonnes of gold a sadhu dreamt about, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi took a dig at the government mocking the excavation.
Raking up the issue of black money, Modi charged the UPA government for being unable to bring back the money stashed by Indian ‘thieves and looters” in foreign banks.
“The whole world is laughing at us over this bizarre exercise. Somebody dreamt and the government has launched an excavation. The money hidden by thieves and looters of India in foreign banks is much more than thousand tonnes of gold. If you (government) bring back that money, you won’t have to do digging for gold (in Unnao),” Modi said in Chennai while addressing a gathering.
The issue of black money has been BJP’s election agenda for quite some time now. In 2011, it was one of the most important issues while the Indian people started their movement against corruption with Anna Hazare and AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal.
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev too had heated Delhi up with his yoga-cum-anticorruption shivir in Delhi’s Ramlila ground. While the UPA government then acted cowardly gassing and baton charging thousands of Ramdev’s followers, the chants of bringing black money back grew higher and higher.
The government had claimed to have secured a list by wikileaks holding the names of those stashing away their money in Swiss banks, it never actually disclosed those names.
With the mention of black money, Modi has surely invigorated a weak chord of Congress and its allies. It will not only make people revisit all those anti-government episodes, it may actually work in favour of BJP which is already being seen as an emerging largest party in many surveys.
Today it is Modi, next will be AAP and other anti-UPA forces which will use the issue at hand to damage Congress’ (what is left) vote share.
The way Rahul Gandhi has been working in the field gives us a clear idea of his competency. Guess it is time Sonia Gandhi stepped in the campaign carnival.
