The BJP on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung demanding he dismiss Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for misusing public funds during the 2008 assembly elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) state unit staged a protest march from the Legislative Assembly to Raj Niwas – the residence of the governor – holding placards and raising slogans against Dikshit.
“The chief minister has lost not only any moral authority to continue in the office but also the faith of the common people in Delhi,” said Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel.
A trial court Saturday ordered filing of an FIR against Dikshit for allegedly misusing government funds for an advertising campaign ahead of the 2008 assembly elections.
Former BJP state unit chief Vijender Gupta had filed the petition against Dikshit for the alleged misuse of Rs.22.6 crore from public funds.
“There seems to be conspiracy of silence as even four days after the court’s order, neither police nor we have been able to get copy of the court order. There are attempts to shield her,” Goel said.
Goel further said that the continuance of Dikshit as the chief minister was against the ethos of the constitutional democracy. “This is nothing but a fraud on the Constitution.”
