Till yesterday, the party was announcing to take one step at a time and saying that it will contest Haryana assembly elections. But today, it spoke of taking all the big parties head on in 2014 general elections.
The Aam Aadmi Party has conceded to re-election after the hung assembly verdict of Delhi. In its victory rally at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, all the winning faces of Aam Aadmi were present.
Party member Kumar Vishwas introduced all the 28 winning candidates and hinted towards party’s march to the centre in 2014. All the party members, including Arvind Kejriwal, Yogendra Yadav, Manish Sisodia and Shazia Ilmi were present on the stage set for the rally.
It was a human sea where people sat on road, pedestrian and on earth – wherever they found space.
Addressing the people, Vishwas said that the Congress party, which was dismissing them earlier, now wants to learn from them. Slamming BJP leaders for their various remarks, Vishwas challenged them, in particular Arun Jaitly, to contest Lok Sabha election against AAP and win it.
Riding high on the success of the party, Yogendra Yadav in his speech hailed the power of aam aadmi and gave the credit of party’s success in Delhi elections to the general public. He asked the public to vote for the party again as the conditions for re-elections are more evident.
Taking a jibe at the BJP, which emerged as the single largest party by a mere difference of four seats by AAP, he said that the BJP must be strategizing afresh as the party will fight in general elections as well.
Speaking on the decision to sit in opposition or not forming government with ay alliance, Yadav said, “BJP won the election and emerged as single largest party, it staked claim of the success, then why isn’t it forming the government? Why it is asking AAP to form the government? We came second!”
Yadav said that they had challenged the politics of muscle power and money, and changed the definition of politics.
Saying that it was not a real victory, Yadav said that the real victory will only be when Janlokpal Bill will be passed by centre.
Slamming centre for the delay in passing the bill, he also mocked the UPA government for its changed behavior after party’s spectacular win. “Earlier they did not bother about Annaji going on fast. Now they call within minutes of him starting the fast. They are afraid of the power of aam aadmi now,” he said.
It should be noted that Anna is currently on an indefinite fast in Ralegan Siddhi demanding passing of Janlokpal Bill from the government.
Various political parties and non-political figures too have been suggesting Kejriwal to form an alliance either with BJP or Congress and form the government and not impose another election on Delhi people. Kiran Bedi, Anupam Kher, and even Baba Ramdev had come forward asking Kejriwal to form the government. Congress agreed to extend its unconditional support and AAP member Manish Sisodia voiced his ‘issue based support to BJP’ thought too. But the party has remained adamant on its policy of not supporting any of the big parties.
