After introducing the light and compact Slate 6 #VoiceTab in the Indian market this week, HP has launched it’s slightly larger sibling, the HP Slate 7 #VoiceTab at Rs 16,990.
The tech giant HP – who are best known for laptops, desktops and printers made a comeback in the smartphone market post a sabbatical of two years with the launch of HP Slate 6 VoiceTab at Rs 22,990 earlier this week.
Design wise, the HP Slate 7 #VoiceTab is rectangular and features rounded edges and a carbon fiber body, which makes it easier to hold the Phablet. The IPS LCD screen is of course, bigger than the one seen on the Slate 6 VoiceTab and dons silver dual-speakers on the front. It weighs around 325 grams, which makes the Phablet quite easy and light to hold. Dimensionally speaking, it would seem a tad odd to make or answer calls via the 7-inch device.
Specs-wise, the HP Slate VoiceTab 7 runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box and comes with dual-SIM functionality (one normal SIM and the other Micro-SIM) with voice-calling and dual standby support. The Phablet features a 7-inch (1280X800 pixels) HD IPS display and comes powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Marvell PXA1088 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. On the camera front, there is a 2 megapixel lens, while at the rear there is a 5 megapixel camera. Stock storage space is rated at 16GB, which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, Micro-USB, EDGE, GPRS and 3G (via SIM). Battery pack consists of a 4,100mAh unit.
Furthermore, the HP Slate 7 VoiceTab has been bundled with a couple of more features out of the box for its customers such as 25GB of free cloud storage and also comes preloaded with apps such as HP e-Print, HP Connected Photo, HP File Manager and three months of unlimited downloads from HP Connected Music.
The pricing of the 7-inch Slate VoiceTab at Rs 16,990 is very competitive.
However, the fact that the smaller 6-inch Slate is retailing at a higher Rs 22,990 seems strange. But in the Slate 6’s defense, it is easier for anyone to confuse the device to be a smartphone instead of a Phablet – owing to its light and compact demeanor.
That should explain to some extent the premium pricing of the Slate 6 VoiceTab. But as far as the HP Slate 7 VoiceTab is concerned, it’s got a value for money price tag.
