Touted as one of the most innovative gadgets of the decade, the new Asus PadFone X is a mind-boggling smartphone-tablet duo. It is a two-part device, comprising a separate smartphone and a tablet, allowing users to anchor the phone into the tablet docking station. Once slipped at the back of the tablet, the handset transforms into a larger screened Wi-fi compatible tablet. Customers can play their favorite Android apps from the phone on the 9-inch tablet display, thus enjoying an expanded view. Switching between the phone and tablet is also smooth and easy.
Design & Built
Asus PadFone X sports an extremely unconventional set up. The standalone phone measures 5.67 x 2.85 x 0.39 inches and weighs 150 gms, but when harbored into the back of the tablet, the gadget measures 9.86 x 6.78 x 0.46 inches and weighs 514 gms.
Features
Running on the incredibly versatile Android 4.4 Kitkat OS, toppled with Asus’s own Zen UI, the Asus PadFone X tablet & smartphone combo boasts of a powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor teamed with 2 GB of RAM. While the handset flaunts a vibrant 5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display encompassing 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and pixel density of 441 ppi, the tablet sports a 9-inch display bearing the same resolution as its smartphone counterpart. However, the most outstanding Asus PadFone X feature is that during the tablet mode, customers can use the phone’s data plan to access the internet, implying the need of only one plan for both the devices.
Storage
The gadget brings onboard a 16 GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 64 GB, with the help of a micro SD card.
Camera
Asus PadFone X comes packed with a whopping 13 MP rear-end camera and a 2 MP front facing camera on the phone. Other exciting camera features include auto focus, touch to focus, LED flash, geo tagging, and face detection. It also enables users to adjust the pixel size up to 400% while clicking images in low-light conditions. When inserted inside the dock, customers can utilize the same rear-end camera. The tablet, however, holds a 1 MP camera in the front.
Connectivity
Running at blazingly fast speeds provided by 4G LTE-advanced technology, the gadget has plenty of connectivity options, such as, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11, GPS/AGPS, micro-USB 2.0 port, NFC, LTE and Wi-Fi direct.
Battery Life
The smartphone houses a 2,330 mAh battery, but can extend its battery life by taking advantage of the additional 4,990 mAh battery of the tablet docking station.

The price of Asus PadFone X is not yet available.
With an expected launch of Asus PadFone X in the second quarter of 2014, the tech giant aims to deliver a remarkable blend of portability of a smartphone with convenience of a tablet.
