Amazon has finally taken the wraps of its much-awaited flagship, the Amazon Fire Phone. It flaunts a different operating system, an exclusive 3D display, a shopping tool…
After months of rumors and anticipation, the Amazon Fire Phone is finally here. It comes with a host of novel features and services, particularly its 3D display, built-in shopping cart, six cameras, and more. However, loaded with some unique features of Amazon Fire Phone, the device is quite different when compared to the other Android and Windows phones available in the market. Let’s check out how this new entrant stacks up against the current hard-hitter and its biggest rival, the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Design & Built
Packed in a rubberized frame, Amazon Fire Phone measures 139.2×66.5×8.9mm in dimensions. Featuring Gorilla Glass covers on the front and at the back, the Fire Phone weighs 160 grams and is heavier as compared to Galaxy S5, which weighs merely 145 grams.
Specs
With a 4.7-inch screen, 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, and a low pixel density at 315 ppi, sadly, there isn’t much to brag about the Fire Phone’s resolution screen. Meanwhile, the S5 boasts of a standard full-HD 5.1-inch display with 1920x1080p resolution and 431 ppi. However, the exciting part over here is the Fire Phone’s 3D interface which comes equipped with four front-facing cameras, capable of tracking the user’s face and changing the viewing experience depending upon the user’s perspective and how they hold or move the phone. The company calls this as the ‘Dynamic Perspective’ head-tracking feature.
The Fire Phone runs its proprietary customized version, namely Android Fire OS 3.5, whereas, Galaxy S5 runs the versatile & latest Android KitKat version. The Fire Phone packs in an old 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, while S5 derives its power from a 2.5GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor. Both the handsets ship with 2 GB of RAM.
The phone, however, scores great in terms of perks and freebies offered by it, such as a free subscription of 1 year to Amazon prime, unlimited photo storage through Cloud, Amazon’s Firefly which helps recognizing things in the real world, and much more.
Storage
Available in 32 and 64 GB variants, the Fire Phone lacks a MicroSD slot for storage expansion. S5 also comes in two variants, 16 GB and 32 GB, but provides an option for storing additional data up to 128 GB via a MicroSD card.
Camera
In the camera department, the Fire Phone flaunts a 13 MP rear camera with a wide aperture lens and a 2.1 MP front-facing snapper, whereas, the S5 sports a whopping 16 MP camera capable of shooting 4K videos as well as a 2 MP camera at the front.
Price Range
There is no information on the price of Amazon Fire Phone in India, but it seems the pricing will be almost similar to its competitors. The price of Samsung Galaxy S5 is approximately INR 35,000.
Overall, the Fire Phone is not one of those devices which would amaze everyone with its bleeding-edge internals. Nevertheless, one should not forget that the company’s whole intent behind the phone was to make it easy for customers to buy products from Amazon and offer them with a crazy 3D interface which none of its rivals possess. However, the final decision will depend upon the user’s style and preference.
