If the latest report of the Wall Street Journal is anything to go by, then we are in for a real treat by the end of this year.
The one big news that is circulating the tech industry is that Amazon is working on a 3D smart phone that would use a technology which is one of its kinds.
According to the Wall Street Journal this mobile phone will boast of four front-facing cameras that will work in tracking the user’s retina to make images appear in 3D, much like what we see in a hologram. Besides, this smart phone from Amazon would also render 3D images without the requirement of any glasses.
What’s cool is that the in-built eye-tracking technology that helps to monitor the movement of a user towards the screen and automatically zooms the image to help him view closely. The technology also helps to manipulate images and texts as a user moves the phone. As per experts who have already used the phone, this technology, they say, would be perfect for gamers. The phone’s software would also be customized to support visual games and also designed to leave a sense of depth on flat screens.
As per reports from the sources, Amazon is already interviewing select software and app developers to deliberate on the perfect handset. The talks are mainly held at hotels under tight security arrangements. However, it is still unclear as to which operating system would Amazon finally go with to power its first ever smart phone. For the record, the company uses the free version of Android (a Google product) in its Kindle Fire tablets; but these Fire series feature highly customized version of the operating system with zero access to the Google App Store. On the other hand Amazon itself has an app store that boasts of over 200,000 apps presently. The same can be used for its smart phone version as well.
Reports also suggest that Amazon is in talks with two popular display makers to make the screen for the mobile phone. The phone is expected to go for mass production by the end of April with initial order of 600,000 units.
Amazon’s first ever smart phone will be launched in June this year, but would hit the market a few months later in September. However, the company is yet to confirm the pricing or the design of the product, as they say that is subject to change depending on the demand.
Now will this new endeavor from Amazon gain success is something we have to wait and see; but one thing is pretty certain that they won’t have it easy in the already saturated markets of the US and UK where Samsung’s Galaxy series and Apple’s iPhone series dominates the smartphone industry by a considerable margin.
