All the sectors were trading in green and the rally was led by banking index (bankex), metal, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and oil and gas sectors.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,558.93 points, was trading at 20,767.83 points in the pre-noon session, up 232.92 points or 1.13 percent from the previous day’s close at 20,534.91 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 20,819.77 points and a low of 20,558.93 points during the trade so far.
The S&P BSE bankex surged by 246.91 points, metal index gained 136.04 points, PSU index augmented by 91.80 points and oil and gas index increased by 90.41.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also gained 77.80 points or 1.28 percent and was trading at 6,169.65 points.
