What Happens When You Drink Too Much of Water?

Drinking too much water – Do you have tendency to drink more water now and then? Or You constantly pee more during day as well as night than there are chances that you over hydrated.

Mostly we have heard of cases of dehydration but now days health obsessed people are falling in another problem of over hydration.

Water is essential for all of us but only in right quantity. Many people end drinking up lot of water. Some do it kill hunger pangs, some think it’s best way to stay slim and healthy.

Below are some problems that happen drinking too much water – if one drinks too much of water and solution to it as well:

Too much water intake can lead to hyponatremia which is imbalance between electrolytes in our body or there There are several symptoms of this illness like headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, frequent urination and mental disorientation. It can also lead to death. So do not drink water to death.

Over hydration leads to headaches, insomnia, cold hands and feet, decreases emotional wellbeing, decreased metabolism as well as mental clarity.

How to know about over hydration?

One of the best ways to prevent over hydration is to make sure that one should not drink more water than you sweat out. Also simple urine and blood tests can reveal about the over hydration.

  • Headaches
  • Confusion
  • Vomiting/Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Irritability/restlessness
  • Muscle cramps and swells

How to cure the problem?

Also these problems are mostly faced by athletes, so it is advisable to have sports drinks as they have sodium and other electrolytes but check that you are drinking sports drink too much as well. Checking the underlying diseases that might happened and one can start medication to cure them. Also knowing right balance of salt and water and then knowing the how much amount of water you need is important.

Drinking too much water – Listen to your body and never forget to quench your thirst. As rightly said, nothing is good in excess so one should also avoid drinking more water than advisable level as it can deadly.
