If you are looking for a serene, beautiful yet secluded spot to spend time with your beloved today in Delhi, where there will be no one from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) or Hindu Mahasabha to call your expression of love outrageous or stop you from spending some lovey-dovey moments with your partner, there is a good news for all you lovers.
Prez Pranab Mukherjee has let the famous Mughal gardens open for the public starting today, marking the very spirit of Valentine’s Day – love amid nature’s beauty.
The annual event, ‘Udyanotsav’, inaugurated by Prez yesterday will present about 10,000 tulips in all bright hues and vivid shades as these flowers have been blooming since the last week of January and colours like red, orange, yellow mixed with red, pink, purple and white are all expected to bloom till March 10.
The gardens open till March 15 barring Monday when the maintenance work will be carried out in the garden will spread the fragrance of more than 70 varieties of seasonal flowers grouped according to their height and colour combinations that would add to the synchronised harmony and will give an appealing look and feel, much adding to the warmth of love on the occasion of Valentine’s day.
Not only the Mughal Garden, but the President’s estate also owns the Spiritual Garden, Herbal Garden, Bio-Diversity Park and Bonsai Garden, all of which will be open for visit. If you are a lovebird, you certainly love roses and roses here are galore and grow throughout the year with over 120 varieties of roses that are in their prime bloom this season and will be so till the end of March.
You may even spot special roses like the Green Rose and Angelique and 40 other varieties to spread their magic and you will be awestruck to hear their names! While some roses are with the names of Belami, Black Lady, Double Delight and Eiffel Tower, others you will find with the names of significant individuals, Mother Teresa, Arjun, Bhim, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Jawahar and Dr. B.P. Pal besides the names of other international celebrities such as Queen Elizabeth, John F Kennedy, Mr. Lincoln and Montezuma.
There are some other rose varieties like Kiss of Fire, Iceberg, Granada, Jadis, Iceberg, Christian Dior, Happiness, Century Two and First Prize. This is a one-of-a-kind experience as the Mughal Garden unlike any other Garden in Delhi that have huge masses of roses but in limited variety. The beautiful flower carpets, all with splendid designs put on display in the Central Lawns would certainly set the mood for a long walk holding hands with your partner around these rose arrays.
There are some ornamental flowers specifically of yellow, red and orange colours and even a small cactus corner that will be on display just like it has been in all the previous years.
A freshly developed Lotus Pond in the Spiritual Garden will also be available for viewing along with an exhibition stall showcasing real fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the very royal President’s Estate organic farm.
Well, the gates will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the entry and exit for the public will be from gate no. 35 of the President’s Estate, nearby the area where North Avenue leads up to the Rashtrapati Bhavan. While 5.84 lakh visitors made their entry into the popular and beautiful garden, this year seems to make a new record of visitors, especially lovers. (*winks*)
