What say Mumbai chaps?
What’s your take Delhi dudes?
Which one is better – Mumbai Local Vs Delhi Metro ?
Well, not everyone has tried both the modes of immensely popular modes of transport that have literally become the respective city’s lifeline, so it might be difficult to decide. While Mumbai local trains have been serving the ordinary citizens for past few decades now, Delhi metro has also provided the much needed respite from transportation woes for more than 10 years now.
However, the jury is still out on as to which one is better?
Let me bring out some comparable points and then you guys can decide.
1) Comfort
Since Delhi metro is completely air-conditioned, it scores a point higher than Mumbai local trains that are really uncomfortable in a hot and humid weather, especially during the rains! However, both are packed to the brim so only the ones who are sitting get any comfort, for the rest, it’s a difficult journey for sure! Rubbing others’ sweat on your own body becomes a regular feature, apart from being tossed between human flesh of different size and shape!
2) Cost-effective
Here, Mumbai local trains easily rule the charts with prices almost hitting rock bottom compared to how the cost of living is rising otherwise. Delhi metro is not too expensive though, but if one has to travel extensively without having a pass or smart card, it becomes really costly! The government’s decision of not hiking the Mumbai local trains’ prices is a boon for the common man here.
3) Coverage
Mumbai local trains cover the entire length of Mumbai city from one end to another and there is hardly any area of importance left to be covered. However, with city expanding in all directions and major business districts getting segregated all across the city, new routes are required, for which Mumbai Metro is proving to be a good alternative! On this point, even Delhi metro is not behind since it has expanded all over the city and its neighbouring cities as including Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad covering every nook and corner of the city.
As of now, it is 1-1! Draw, right? Wait, let’s see some more points!
4) Fun
If sitting in an air-conditioned vehicle without interacting much with fellow travellers or not having the enjoyment of dealing with sellers of various items aboard a train is your idea of fun, then Delhi metro is for you! However, for real stories, for real interactions and some really funny moments of human life, Mumbai local trains are the place to be!
5) View
While Mumbai locals travel on ground, the view is a static view one gets while walking or driving on the road. Delhi metro while moving underground doesn’t offer much for a view, but when it is on elevated pillars over the ground, the view of the city it offers is too spectacular to be defined in words, especially the night journeys!
Well, as you noticed, the score is still 2-2! For me, it’s a draw guys!
Both have their own pluses and minuses and both provide a different kind of experience. What you like or hate is entirely dependent on your thought process and expectations, but the bottom line is, both are doing an amazing job for the average commuter!
There is a lot to be desired when it comes to improvement in services, but then nothing is perfect, right?
Just get on board on either of them and enjoy the journey!
