Pakistan’s interior ministry has ordered a probe into the killing of senior Haqqani network leader Naseeruddin Haqqani, a media report said.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday ordered a probe into the murder of Naseeruddin Haqqani in Islamabad and sought a report, Dawn reported quoting sources.
The minister has ordered the police to investigate whether the victim was Naseeruddin Haqqani and whether he was killed by Afghanistan’s intelligence agency operatives, the daily’s report said. He also asked the police to find out that who took the victim’s body away from the spot.
The report said an officer of the interior ministry, on condition of anonymity, has confirmed that the minister has sought the report. “There is no official confirmation of the victim and the attackers yet,” the officer added.
Naseeruddin Haqqani, the son of Haqqani network leader Jalaluddin Haqqani, was killed in a firing incident here Nov 10 night.
Even after four days of the murder, Islamabad police have not reveal the identity of the man.
Naseeruddin Haqqani was responsible for fund-raising, logistics and political affairs of the Haqqani network.
Earlier, a spokesman for Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Shahidullah Shahid, had confirmed the killing of Naseeruddin Haqqani.
“We will take revenge of the murder,” the TTP spokesman said.
“The dead body was later sent to North Waziristan tribal region and buried there,” a Haqqani network official said.
A report, which appeared in The News International Nov 13, said Naseeruddin Haqqani might have been killed by his friends-turned-foes in the Pakistani establishment.
The Pakistani Taliban has blamed Pakistan’s Inter-Services International (ISI) for Naseeruddin Haqqani’s murder, the report said.
Naseeruddin Haqqani’s killing in the country’s capital has brought a lot of shame for the Pakistani government, which has so far had refuted allegations of sheltering the Haqqani network.
