US President Barack Obama said the Russian proposal to put Syrian chemical weapons under international control is “potentially positive development,” and he would prefer to have a diplomatic solution to the crisis rather than launch a military attack.
Obama made the statement during an interview with CNN, one of the six networks which interviewed him on Monday afternoon, Xinhua reported.
During an interview with NBC, Obama also said he remains skeptical that Syria will turn over its chemical weapons.
The president also said Secretary of State John Kerry would work with the Russian side to explore the proposal.
