Indian troops opened fire along LoC: Pakistan

Indian troops opened fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, injuring six Pakistanis, Pakistani officials said on Friday.

Indian troops opened fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, injuring six Pakistanis, Pakistani officials said on Friday.

According to Xinhua, local media quoted the officials as saying that Indian troops violated the ceasefire in Kotli sector and fired rockets on Pakistani civilians.

They said women and children were among those injured in the fresh incident of shelling.

The latest incident occurred just days after Pakistani and Indian prime ministers agreed in New York to reduce tensions along the LoC, the de facto border between the uneasy neighbors.

Both countries declared cease-fire along the LoC in 2003 and guns have been relatively silent since then.

However, tensions have escalated following exchange of fire between troops of the two countries in January.

Both accuse each other of cease-fire violations.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh have agreed that the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) of both countries would meet to find out a solution to the LoC tension.

The foreign ministry in Islamabad had said Thursday the DGMOs would meet but did not give any date.
