BJP national general secretary Amit Shah Wednesday said the country was yearning for change and was looking forward to see Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the next prime minister.
He was speaking at a meeting with party workers in Allahabad, 200 km from here.
On a day-long visit to the Sangam city, Shah told workers to brace up for the Lok Sabha polls in 2014.
Referring to the prospects of the party in the forthcoming general elections, Shah said there was a groundswell of support in favour of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Modi.
He urged party workers, supporters and activists to fan out across the state and ensure that the goodwill for Modi turns into votes.
“All sections of the society are favouring the BJP now and workers have to ensure that they take up the cause of the people and fight for their rights,” he said.
Shah said there was a strong wave of anti-incumbency against the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh.
“People are sick and tired of graft, false promises and lawlessness in the state and want to see Modi as prime minister,” he said.
Shah has been extensively touring the state since his appointment as the BJP general secretary in-charge of the party’s affairs in Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 members to the Lok Sabha.
