Pakistan fires on Indian posts in Jammu again

Pakistan Rangers Tuesday again started firing with “heavy weapons” on Indian positions on the international border in the R.S. Pura sector of Jammu district for the second day in succession, officials said.

The attack came a few hours after Pakistani forces opened fire on Indian posts in Poonch district, a day when Indian Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde was visiting the international border in the region.

“Pakistan Rangers started heavy firing at our post in Pindi area of R.S. Pura sector today (Tuesday) evening,” paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) sources told IANS.

“The Rangers used mortars and other heavy weaponry to target our post. Our troops have strongly retaliated the unprovoked firing by Pakistan with same calibre weapons.”

Reports from the area said heavy firing exchanges are still going on in the area as of 9 p.m.

Pakistani forces indulged in heavy shelling of Indian positions in R.S. Pura sector late Monday night.

A senior BSF officer said Pakistanis used 82 mm mortars and other heavy weaponry to target positions in Nikkowal and Abdullian areas.

Shinde Tuesday visited Jammu to take stock of the situation arising from the repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan Rangers on the international border.

He also carried out an aerial survey of the region besides addressing a ‘Sainik Sammelan’ of BSF troopers in Samba town of Jammu region.
